Welcome from the General Chairs

Welcome to Sheffield!

It is our great pleasure to welcome friends and colleagues of our sensor array and multichannel signal processing research community all around the world to join the tenth IEEE Sensor Array and Multichannel Signal Processing Workshop at Sheffield, United Kingdom.

The SAM Workshop is a key IEEE Signal Processing Society event dedicated to the area of sensor array and multichannel signal processing. With the fast development of recent hot topics like robotics, unmanned aerial vehicles and various autonomous systems, sensor array and multichannel based signal processing for detection, estimation, tracking, localization, communication, etc. is attracting even more attention these days, as evidenced by more and more intensive ongoing research activities across its subareas of interest. This year's SAM is especially marked by an increased alignment with audio and acoustical signal processing interests: there is much commonality in the methods and applications, and we hope that this year's SAM Workshop offers an opportunity for researchers from both communities to explore this further. The SAM 2018 Workshop features with five plenary talks given by leading researchers in the field and four tutorials as well as poster and oral sessions covering 134 high quality research papers, and its attendees come from about 30 different countries.

2018 also marks the first time to hold the IEEE SAM Workshop in the UK and we are truly honoured to be able to bring it to Sheffield, which is the third largest English district by population, and built on seven hills, like Rome. The two million trees give Sheffield the highest ratio of trees to people of any city in Europe. In particular, it is at the doorstep of the first UK national park - the Peak District, offering breath-taking views and fantastic opportunities for pastimes such as cycling, walking and wildlife watching. We hope you all will enjoy your stay and have a good time at Sheffield. We are especially excited to be able to offer you a conference banquet at a stately English manor, Chatsworth House.

At last we would like to take this opportunity to thank all the organizing committee members, technical program committee members, reviewers and volunteers for their very hard work and efforts in making this year's event another success story in our community.
