Tour 1

Tuesday 5.30 to 08.00 pm

The tour takes us to simulators of inland waterway vessels owned by the DST research institution. We will go there on foot (20 min. walk). We will visit the Velabi and Sandra II simulators and get to know the DST and other facilities. Together with the DST and the Chairs of Ship Technology and Mechatronics, the Dynamics and Control Chair has worked on the Autobin, Fernbin and Safebin projects, focusing on autonomous guidance of ships, remote guidance, and model- and AI-based assistance in remote guidance.

Tour 2

Thursday 03.00 - 08.00 pm

This tour (pre-registration and registration required, free of charge) takes us to Stolberg to the CAE company (group 1) and to Aachen (Aachen city, Aachen Dom Treasury) (group 2).

CAE is a leading provider of simulation products and training solutions for all armed forces and organizational units in the air, naval, land, and public safety sectors. Group 1 will get to know the company and its innovation laboratory as part of a guided tour with limited access and number of participants.

The Aachen visit highlights the Aachen city's rich historical and cultural heritage, with a focus on the legacy of Charlemagne. The program includes a visit to the Aachen Dom Treasury (Domschatzkammer), one of the most significant church treasuries north of the Alps. The treasury houses exceptional works of art that were created or donated over twelve centuries for St. Mary's Church, founded by Charlemagne around the year 800. These artifacts reflect Aachen's central role in the religious and political history of medieval Europe. The treasury, is inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The tour also includes a walk through Aachen's historic city center, exploring key sites connected to Charlemagne and the city's role in shaping the cultural identity of Western Europe.
