IEEE CE Society VP of Conferences’ Welcome

{img src=images/StefanMozar.jpg height=100 class=photo-left desc=Mozar} Welcome to the Sixteenth ISCE in Harrisburg!

This is the second time the ISCE is held in the United States. The first time it was held in the USA, was in 2007. That year it was held in Dallas, Texas. It is always a pleasure to have the ISCE in the USA. This year’s ISCE team, lead by Professor Morales, has worked hard to present an excellent program covering a wide variety Consumer Electronics topics.

The ISCE was started in Singapore, in 1997. Although there have been some other non IEEE ISCE Symposia before 1997, these have no association with our conference. The ISCE is originally an Asian symposium; and is the second major IEEE conference on Consumer Electronics. Being a chapter based conference has allowed the ISCE to move to different locations. The flexibility of moving the symposium around, allows attendees at regional centres, who can’t attend the ICCE in Las Vegas, to attend a high quality IEEE conference locally or close to home.

In order to serve our members better, the IEEE CE Society has established new conferences. The new conferences are located on site with the world’s most important Consumer Electronics Shows. Last year (2011) we held the first ICCE-Berlin, which is on site of the IFA show in Germany. This European based conference has been well received and was very successful. This year we have continued with our conference establishment. During April we held the inaugural ICCE-China, a bi-lingual conference where the working language is Mandarin and English. The Conference was held in Shenzhen, China. This conference was on site with China Electronics Fair. In November a second conference will be commence in conjunction with the China High Tech Fair. This event will also be held in Shenzhen.

October will see the first Global Conference on Consumer Electronics (GCCE). This will be hosted by Professor Hase in Tokyo, and will be on site with the CEATEC show. Our conferences are collocated with these world leading consumer electronics shows to not only provide our delegates with opportunities to take in what industry is doing, but because the value of our conferences is recognised by the organisers of these shows. The shows provide an opportunity to see what the current technology in the market is now, our conferences provide a glimpse of what these products will look like in the future.

In addition to the tradition consumer electronics conferences, we have identified Games as an important part of consumer electronics. This year’s Games conference (IGIC) will be held in Rochester New York during early September.

Our society has been working on delivering opportunities for CE professionals to get together and exchange ideas. But we also allow time to socialise and enjoy the local attractions. I trust you will all enjoy Harrisburg, and bring some chocolates back home. I know I will. Stefan Mozar VP Conferences
