General Chairs Welcome
On behalf of the Steering and Organization committees, we are delighted to welcome you to PerCom2017: The Fifteenth International Conference on Pervasive Computing and Communications. PerCom is an annual conference providing a forum for researchers and practitioners to exchange new achievements and discuss future development in pervasive computing and communication research and technologies. Following the success of previous conferences, PerCom2017 is held in Kona, Hawaii.
PerCom2017 offers a rich program to its audience over five days. Besides the main conference with its high quality research papers, the conference program includes keynote speeches, demos, workshops, a Ph.D forum, and a panel. The excellent program is a result of the collective efforts of many people and organizations.
First, special thanks goes to Christine Julien, the Program Chair and her team of Vice Chairs (Qi Han, Franca Delmastro and Amy Murphy) and Program Committee members who have done an outstanding job in carrying out the paper review tasks. Second, we would like to express our appreciation of the contributions of the Workshop Chairs, Paul Castro and Daniele Puccinelli. We also thank the important work of the PhD forum chairs, Daniela Nicklas and George Roussos, the Work-In-Progress Chairs, Gregor Schiele and Gang Zhou, the Demo Chairs, Petteri Nurmi and Guoliang Xing, and the panel chair, Jiannong Cao.
We thank Lionel Ni for his work as the keynote chair. We are delighted to have two keynote speeches from leading researchers: Hui Lei of IBM and John Krumm of Microsoft Research.
Our special thanks go to Mohan Kumar—the steering committee chair, Peizhao Hu and Flora Salim—the publicity chairs, and Gergely Zaruba—the finance and registration chair. The Publication Chairs Alan Marchiori and Delphine Reinhardt outstandingly handled the difficult task of the PerCom proceedings preparation. We would like to thank Gabriele Civitarese, the conference website chair, for maintaining the web site.
We thank the sponsors of the conference, including the National Science Foundation (NSF), IEEE TCCC and IEEE TCPP for providing a number of student travel grants. In addition, we owe a special thanks to Elsevier Pervasive and Mobile Computing Journal for sponsoring the Mark Weiser Best Paper award, the prestigious best paper award of PerCom.
Finally, we wish to thank the vibrant PerCom community. We hope that all the participants have an enjoyable and professionally fruitful experience at PerCom 2017 and they also find time to appreciate the beauty of Hawaii.
