Welcome Message
On behalf of the organizing program committee, we would like to welcome you to the 19th International Conference on Systems, Signal and Image Processing IWSSIP 2012. Welcome to Vienna, welcome to Austria. The international conference IWSSIP is a remarkable event. Starting as a regional conference initiated by a couple of professors within Europe 19 years ago, this event becomes prestigious and well-known all over the world.
This year many new ideas have been brought into the conference program. The day before the conference is devoted to two tutorials, freely available for all, not only the participants of the conference. This has been made possible through the sponsorship of EURASIP. We could win two outstanding researchers: Sergios Theodoridis from Athen and Jörn Ostermann from the Leibniz Universität Hannover. Also on this day before the conference we have co-located the REDZUR student conference which usually takes place in Bratislava, but this year the students are welcomed in Vienna to prepare their work by posters. Another novelty this year is the first time we give out student paper awards. For preparing the difficult task of coming up with useful rules we like to thank Paul Cristea. Also new to the conference is the concept of special sessions. By inviting outstanding research groups we add on interesting papers of hot areas in signal processing that otherwise would not have found their way to the IWSSIP conference.
This year we have obtained 265 papers (54 in special sessions) from 52 countries (80% European). We can proudly emphasize not only the number and the origin of papers submitted to the conference this year but the exceptional quality, as well. This high number of submissions allowed us to select only the best quality papers submitted, ending up in 155 accepted papers.
We would like to express our thanks to all members of the Review Committee for their effort and valuable time within the review process. We express our gratitude to all authors for their contribution and confidence to the international conference IWSSIP 2012. The great effort has been expended by the Organizing Committee to prepare all details of this conference. We wish to all conference participants the pleasant time in the capital of Austria not only from the scientific point of view but we hope you will enjoy the possibility for informal contacts, too.
