IEEE Canada President's Welcome Message/Message de bienvenue du président de l'IEEE du Canada
Greetings from the IEEE Canada President
Welcome to EPEC 2018 "Clean Technologies for Smart Cities"
On behalf of IEEE Canada, it is my great pleasure to welcome you to the IEEE Canada Electrical Power and Energy Conference (EPEC) 2018 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
Very much in line with IEEE's strategic vision, as expressed in its tagline ‘Technology for the Benefit of Humanity', EPEC 2018's theme is "Clean Technologies for Smart Cities."
Cities world-wide are growing at a tremendous rate, both due to urbanization and population growth. Plentiful, affordable energy, together with a resilient energy infrastructure, are at the heart of delivering the required services: electricity, water, communications, transportation and food, among many others.
New and improved clean technologies and energy solutions that are smarter and more affordable are needed to serve the growing population, while at the same time minimizing environmental impacts. Your creativity, innovative ideas, contributions, and collaboration are essential.
The annual IEEE Canada Electrical Power and Energy Conference has developed into a truly international event. EPEC 2018 will provide an excellent forum for exchanging ideas, sharing of knowledge and best practices, and discussions between international and Canadian participants from industry, academia, government, and the public.
EPEC 2018 is taking place in Toronto, Ontario, and provides an opportunity for you to experience the many interesting tourist attractions in this beautiful area of Canada. You may even want to venture out of town for a day to explore Niagara Falls or take a drive in the countryside to experience Ontario's famous fall colours.
Please join me in thanking the many volunteers who have dedicated their talent, experience, time and effort to make EPEC 2018 a great success. Enjoy EPEC 2018!
Sincerely Maike Luiken, Ph. D., SMIEEE, FEIC IEEE Canada President, 2018 - 19 IEEEE Region 7 Director, 2018 - 19
