Chairs' Welcome Message

Chairs' Welcome Message

It's our pleasure to welcome you to the forth IEEE MTT-S International Conference on Microwaves for Intelligent Mobility (ICMIM) to be held in Munich, Germany from 16th to 18th April 2018.

The goal of this new conference is to bring together microwave experts which are working in the fields of vehicular applications (e.g. automotive radar sensors and communication), localization and monitoring as well as in mobile systems, machines, and other industrial applications. We will have a special focus on new topics for ICMIM like microwaves for UAVs and machine learning. Microwave technologies found their way into those applications and are rapidly growing which is why we decided to initiate a new international IEEE conference dedicated to those topics.

The conference is organized every year in varying locations in Europe, North America and Asia. ICMIM2018 is sponsored by the IEEE Microwave Theory and Techniques Society (MTTS) and technically co-sponsored by the IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society (APS), the IEEE Intelligent Transportation Systems Society (ITSS), the European Microwave Association (EuMA), and by the Information Technology Society within VDE (ITG). The conference in Munich will be the second one in Europe, consisting of invited talks, contributed papers and workshops. A poster session will receive outstanding visibility at the conference. We intend to bring together worldwide scientists and industrial experts to share and discuss new ideas and future trends. Lunches and coffee breaks are included for all delegates as well as the welcome reception and a great banquet.

The city of Munich is an appealing destination for your trip to Germany. Please take some extra time to visit the city and its environment. For the banquet on Tuesday evening we will take all of you to a lake near Munich to have a dinner which we are sure you'll remember for a long time.

In total we have arranged more than 57 invited and regular contributions from 8 countries. Almost all sessions start and end with invited talks that give overviews or provide extra information on the respective topic. The best paper and the best poster of the conference will be awarded by the ICMIM best paper / best poster award.

The conference is accompanied by a table top exhibition providing the latest in measurement equipment, RF-modules, components and automotive electronics. The exhibition is expressing the clear application focus of ICMIM.

Initiating, preparing, and hosting a new IEEE conference is a huge effort, from designing the scientific program, setting up online services, managing paper submission and review up to handling the on-site organization at the venue. Therefore, our special thanks go to Jan Schür and Carmen Kleinert, Financial Co-Chairs, to Fabian Roos, Exhibition Chair, to Randolf Ebelt, Web Master, to Christian Groß, Conference Management, and Jasmeet Singh, TPC Secretary, just to name a few on behalf of the entire ICMIM 2018 team. They all have been working hard to arrange a major scientific event and make your stay in Munich enjoyable.

Finally, we hope you will get exciting new technical insights and also find enough time to meet with colleagues and make new friends. Together, let us enjoy ICMIM 2018 in Munich and let's evolve it into a remarkable starting shot at the beginning of this new scientific forum!
