Welcome

Welcome to the ICCETIM 2019

Last week I spoke in front of a government tourism board. I convey that there have been some changes in tourism issues compared to a few years ago. For example that the latest visitor trend nowadays is the changing from a large group tourist becomes a small group/micro trip (Free Individual Traveler and Family), with low cost and short period trips. What surprised me was, that most of them did not believe. They still believe that most tourists are in large groups who always want to stay in a destination for a long time. This is not to mention the fact that Disneyfication-style theme parks are increasingly in some destination areas. Thousands of tourists come every week for only 1-2 hours and then leave. Meanwhile, the government still considers that the equitable distribution of tourism business profits still depends on the concept of the length of stay (long-lived concept), even though some community groups are far more advanced on how the way they share profits, for example by making a cooperation organization or by subsidizing health insurance for local residents. From this issue, I realize that there is an academic gap between academics and policymakers, and thus, we must think about this by conducting these kinds of scientific conferences and spreading the ideas to the public. From 48 papers from Indonesia, Malaysia, Taiwan, USA, Philippines, and Australia that came in with various interesting issues about tourism, digital economy, marketing concepts, sharia economics, Fintech, and even social media, we hope that the writers will spread it again to the mainstream media as knowledge dissemination to shorten the academic gap. Despite the dissemination to the academic communities through journals or proceedings that we still do for some particular reasons as well. Finally, I would like to thank all of those who helped organize this event, and to the presenters for the extraordinary ideas and findings at this conference. Happy conferencing.

Regards,

Chairman of ICCETIM 2019
