Industry 4.0 is opening up new avenues for customers and manufactures by offering a larger pool of information in order to improve the manufacturing process of products as a whole. However, with new technologies and equipment becoming available, the facilitation of the information between customer to developer and product to manufacturing line becomes a more challenging task. The need for suitable communication is gathered by an appropriate communication protocol. Outlined in this paper is the need for communication within Industry 4.0, a creation and test of a newly developed communication protocol, a comparison of the said protocol against existing manufacturing protocols and elucidation of future work for communication protocols.
