IEEE P2P 2009 - Call for Participation

September 9-11, 2009 - Seattle, WA

IEEE P2P'09 is the ninth conference in a series of annual conferences concerned with overlay network technologies and massively distributed systems & applications.

Peer-to-Peer systems benefit from and share the resources owned by systems that are distributed around the Internet. Examples of such technologies include peer-to-peer applications and grids, and in general, any large-scale distributed system characterized by decentralization and sharing of resources.

At the end of almost a decade since peer-to-peer has come to center-stage as a leading platform for researchers and practitioners alike, the P2P conference showcases the community's recent research focus and challenges at the threshold of the next decade. P2P'2009 has tried to be inclusive in ways more than one. For the first time in its history it will be held outside Europe - in Seattle.

The keynote speakers - Ken Birman from Cornell University, Roger Barga from Microsoft Research and Ian Clarke from Uprizer Labs and founder of Freenet - will in their talks present three different perspectives on future distributed computing platforms from a wide spectrum of communities - academic, industry, start-up as well as open-source.

P2P 2009's invited industrial talks from Akamai, NEC Europe Labs and NICTA Australia - which not only cover a wide spectrum of topics, but also the industry perspective from three different geographic entities - US, Europe and Asia-Pacific.

Research sessions cover key problems in P2P research, including measurement, management, security, and optimization as well as applications such as storage, life streaming and content distribution.

It is widely recognized that evaluation is among the most critical and difficult challenges in P2P research and development. Therefore, as a unique feature of this conference, we invited a selection of 10 developers of evaluation platforms that cover an important fraction of what is available today. The developers will be available to present their platforms personally, a great opportunity for PhD students to gather firsthand experience.

To make the conference interactive, we decided to invite all presenters of papers to an additional poster session, where they can discuss their results in detail with the audience.
