Travel information

In general Skukuza rest camp can be reached by air or land travel. Details of both options are given.

Travel by air

There are more than 760 international flights per week to Johannesburg International (OR Tambo) Airport. Please check Skyscanner or, for multiple destination flights, check Expedia to see which airlines can take you to South-Africa and what tickets would cost.

Skukuza Airport (in the Kruger National Park and close to Skukuza rest camp)

From Johannesburg International (OR Tambo) Airport take a direct flight to Skukuzu Airport which is in the Kruger National Park. Two daily flights (one hour duration) are available from Johannesburg to Skukuza Airport and one daily flight (three hours' duration) from Cape Town.

Estimated airfare

Published fare for the Cape Town-Skukuza flight (or vice versa) is set at ZAR 2 750 per person (one way, all inclusive). Published fare for the Johannesburg-Skukuza flight (or vice versa) is set at ZAR 1 460 per person (one way, all inclusive). Return flight costs range from ZAR 2 900 to ZAR 4 290 per person for Johannesburg-Skukuza-Johannesburg, and from ZAR 5 570 to ZAR 8 440 per person for Cape Town-Skukuza-Cape Town.

For conservation reasons, the number of daily flights to and from Skukuza is limited to ten. Although Skukuza Airport is in close proximity (approximately 5 km) to Skukuza rest camp (where the accommodation and conference venue are) transport has to be arranged from Skukuza Airport to Skukuza rest camp. In general two alternatives are available: transport arranged by the conference organisers or car hire (to be reserved well in advance).

Transport from Skukuza Airport to Skukuza rest camp

Option 1: Transport will be organised by the conference organizers. Transport from Skukuza Airport to Skukuza rest camp can be booked directly by logging on to http://edas.info and initiating the payment of the conference registration fee (the green icon next to your paper and you as author), accommodation, etc. The icon will only be active once your paper has been reviewed.

Option 2: Hire a car by make a booking well in advance.

Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport (KMIA)

There are regularly scheduled domestic flights throughout the country and various chartered airlines fly to and from safari camps. Several domestic airlines fly to Nelspruit Airport/Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport (MQP), located near the Kruger National Park. It is an estimated 2-3 hour road transfer from KMIA to Skukuza rest camp.

Travel by car

Travel by car from Johannesburg International (OR Tambo) Airport to Skukuza rest camp. Cars can be hired at the airport in Johannesburg to drive to Skukuza rest camp. The distance is 450 km and the driving time will be approximately 6 to 8 hours. Please enter the Kruger National Park at the Kruger Gate, at the latest, 30 min before gate closing time and ensure that you arrive at Skukuza rest camp between opening and closing times.

Late arrivals

Late arrivals are only allowed in cases of emergency (proof and valid reason required) until 21:00 for guests with pre-booked accommodation at certain camps within 10 km distance from the relevant gate. An extra late arrival fee will be charged which is payable at the gate. No late arrivals are allowed at Pafuri, Phalaborwa or Phabeni gates or any other gates for camps more than 10 km away. The late arrival fee for Skukuza camp is R500, valid from 1 November 2013.
