BRC2010 Keynote Lecture

Professor Roberto Merletti (Laboratory for Engineering of the Neuromuscular System (LISiN),Politecnico di Torino, Italy) will be a keynote speaker at BRC2010.

Advances in Surface EMG: Applications for Better and Safer Living

The objective of this keynote lecture is to present the recent advances in non-invasive EMG techniques. Both technical issues and applications are discussed with special focus on the areas that offer opportunity for research and perspective applications for the future. Technical issues, such as the front-end signal amplification, the reduction of power line interference, the High-Density EMG, the interferential signal decomposition techniques are presented. Applications concerning the prevention or minimization of work-related disorders, disorders due to pelvic floor lesions, and understanding of basic physiological mechanisms involved in postural control and muscle cramps are outlined, among many others. Finally, the need for a more intense effort in education and training of clinical professionals is pointed out.
